30th of Harvestmere, 9:40

The time had come. After interrogating one Varric Tethras for an unspecified amount of time, Cassandra and Leliana turned their attention to finding someone to help. The Mage-Templar war truly began in Kirkwall with Knight Commander Meredith being a very large driving force in the war that could absolutely destroy Thedas. Yet this Asmodeus Hawke could not solely be claimed a hero given the rumors or tales in the City of Chains and words from the dwarf’s mouth too. It seemed Hawke, the Champion of Kirkwall, would be no help to the cause of peace. Not after everything she’d learned… It would take a great many months from the first interrogation session with Lord Tethras to this every moment.

She’d spoken to Leliana through ravens. The Divine should hear this story, perhaps the entire Conclave should too. Divine Justinia called the meeting in Haven in an effort to bring peace to Thedas once again. The Age of the Dragons seemed curse for war and blood. Cassandra marched towards where Varric would be. They were going to take a trip. Should the dwarf refuse? Well, Cassandra was not known for her gentle ways or persuasive words.

Divine Justinia would be in Haven. She called all the fighting forces there, the higher ranked and influential members of each side. Cassandra needed to get Varric there and quickly! She could do it if Varric did not fight her demand, making this adventure much harder than needed. Surely he’d want to explain everything he’d told her. She could simply clasp him in chains if he put up a fight. The idea sounded quite divine and she mulled over it as she walked upstairs.

The door would open, potentially leading into the man’s study or even his bedroom for all that she knew, and in would step Cassandra Pentaghast dressed in the familiar armor of the Seekers of Truth. “Varric,” The Nevarran native spoke and did her best to hide her distain, very much failing. “We are going to see the Divine. Immediately. Gather what you may need for travel quickly.” The words sounded like an order because they were just that.

Could someone deny a meeting with the Divine of the Andrastian Chantry? Cassandra imagined so though she hardly imagined they’d live long for such a refusal. Regardless, she knew he’d not toss it aside. Likely he’d say that all of this would make a great book or an addition to a story. Maker, she just wanted to get this over with. Cross the sea, trek across Ferelden and simply be done with him and this blighted war.

@Varric Tethras Please let me know if you need any changes! I gave a generic sort of entrance. <3

After Hawke had been appointed as the Viscount of Kirkwall everything had gone well, as well as one could think. He had had to leave Kirkwall a few months after by reasons that the dwarf did not know, Hawke had not told much in his letters to him. Varric had not heard of him since, but Kirkwall had started to feel like a place where one should not be living, the Mage-Templar war was brewing, but funny enough the streets of Kirkwall were free of battle for once.

Few anxious months later, when The Divine had called forth the Conclave to try and end the war, Varric was visited by a bold woman, a member of the Seekers of Truth, demanding to know where the Champion had left, claiming that only he would be the person to end this unnecessary war. Varric had been staying in Hawke's old mansion in Hightown since Hawke had not needed it himself and the beds were better than in the Hanged Man. The Seeker had come barging through the doors with other men and had dragged the dwarf to a room to be interrogated in. Cassandra Pentaghast was her name, which Varric had learned quite quickly. Varric had told the real tale of the Champion, not the one in the book. It had been quite clear that the Seeker was not there to hear the tale in his book, as the blade through the book in his lap had presented.

Varric was released after the interrogating episode and he had decided to go back to the Hanged Man. It was time to leave Kirkwall, he thought when packing his stuff. He was packing all of his writing stuff, rations and other essentials, when the door to his room opened with more force than was necessary and in walked the Seeker in full armor looking for the dwarf, her eyes landing on him and she spoke with clear disdain for him, which was not really that surprising.

The Seeker must not have seen the backpack in his chair as she ordered the dwarf to gather his belongings for travel to meet the Divine. "Could you repeat that Seeker." Varric said quite confused, not sure if what he had heard was right. What in the world would she need of him anymore, he had told her all that he knew. Varric had turned to the Seeker who stood at the door in position that made it clear of her soldier status.

Cassandra did not see the pack filled with the dwarf’s things. Even if she had, the result of that observation would not be a pleasant one. Her entrance surely startled him yet she did not feel an ounce of guilt about all but kicking the door in. Why did Varric look so befuddled? Did she stutter or stammer? Certainly not! So why did he stare at her as if she’d walked into this room with four heads, eleven arms and a third eye? Repeating herself was something that Cassandra did not enjoy doing by any means. She heaved a very heavy sigh, her shoulders rising and falling dramatically in sync with the sigh.

“Pack your belongings, dwarf. We are going to the Divine, the Most Holy, Divine Justinia. You will tell her everything you’ve told me in the past. She will know what to do.” The first time she’d spoken it had been a bit rigid but now she spoke in a dead and cold way. Her irritancy at having to repeat her orders showed only through the twitching of her left eye. “We are leaving within the hour. I’ve a boat ready and prepared.”

Varric could certainly refuse. He just would not like the outcome or what procedures would come afterwards. Cassandra would likely slap a pair of chains on his wrists and upon his ankles. One way or another Varric Tethras was coming with her to Haven. She wanted to get there before the Conclave began. They needed to be quick. Cassandra was not a tardy person and Varric would not ruin that for her. They would arrive on time. That was assuming that the dwarf did not put up a fight. Which she imagined he would given what she knew of him already!

“They are expecting us.” She added as her arms folded across her chest.

Varric had not heard wrong. Cassandra had sighed heavily before repeating what she had said with a even colder tone than before. Varric was slightly relieved that the Seeker had not seen the backpack, but now he would use it anyway. "Why do I need to repeat the tale? You know it now as well as I do." Varric protested, but walked to his dresser grabbing his spare pairs of breaches and socks, walking back to the table and packing them inside the backpack.

"Well, I guess it doesn't matter, I was going to leave Kirkwall soon anyway." Varric admitted, but did not say that he had already been packing. "Kirkwall is becoming quite the hard place to live in." He voiced his thoughts out loud while tightening the strings of his backpack. Varric had packed all of his stuff inside the back and he looked through the room while the Seeker was still waiting at the door. There only thing he still needed from the room was his crossbow Bianca and his coins, also he had to pay the owner for the room he had lived for so long.

"I am done packing." Varric said while he turned his head at the Seeker, her expression was that of a bored one. "If we have still time, I suggest eating before we have to leave." Varric spoke casually as he moved to the stand where he kept Bianca lifting her carefully and walking back to the table. He then strapped his crossbow lightly in front of the backpack so he could remove it easily if he needed to use it. After this he went and picked up his coin purse, which was quite full of coins at the moment, it had not been a long time from his payment from his publisher.

The dwarf threw the purse in his hands a few times and looked at the woman in front of the entryway, "You are free to join me, if you like." Varric said grinning smugly, while he walked out of the door dodging Cassandra with his backpack and purse in his hands. "Food is on me this time, Seeker!" He said a little bit louder, not turning back, while he walked downstairs to a busy inn.

Cassandra did not see the pack until Varric moved about to fill it. Maker, had she caught him just before he fled the city! Divine intervention to be sure or just very lucky timing, regardless it made the waiting easier. It took but a single moment for the last of Varric Tethras’ belongings to be placed into the pack. Her lip curled upright slightly to reveal a small portion of her teeth as she saw the dwarf’s breaches. Maker’s breath, no. She could have gone her entire life without having seen the man’s undergarments. Even two whole lifetimes!

Had Kirkwall ever been a decent or easy place to live in? The tales and accounts Cassandra had witnessed or been subjected to spoke quite differently. Varric could say it was becoming a hard place all he wanted but they both knew the truth. Without their Viscount Hawke—or even with him!—the City of Chains was crumbling into ruin again. Battles and chaos free to resume in the street. To be perfectly honest, the Seeker was shocked that the dwarf was leaving. Well, more so that he was leaving before she commanded him to! Part of her wished to ask what brought that decision about but she didn’t want to hear his voice any more than necessary.

Eat? Cassandra honestly had forgotten to do that that. As her stomach gave a rumble in response to the word, she arched a brow at him. His cheeky tone made her eyes roll quite hard. She had no choice but to join him! They needed to be together as Cassandra was now, for a lack of a better word, his escort to the Divine. Though she could easily bring out chains to change the roles for her benefit… However, Cassandra accepted his willingness to go. It was almost refreshing for him to agree to her without violence.

“It was your suggestion, Varric! Why would I pay for your suggestion?!” She hissed at him as he slunk past her. Maker’s breath! Cassandra made a noise of displeasure as she headed down after him. The look of anger evident on her features, unwilling to move even an inch in her expression of discomfort! “Varric, tell me, why are you so willing to go with me?” The tavern was busy, active and rather loud for her tastes. She liked taverns occasionally but she did not like them this early in the day. The food might be a saving point to the rowdiness.

Varric moved past the Seeker quickly and heard her annoyed hiss as he walked down the stairs and it made him chuckle, "Do you want me to pay or not?" the dwarf rolled his eyes and walked to the counter and waved a hello to Corff who was standing behind the counter and Norah who came out the back at that moment. "Varric! What can I get you and your..." Corff started, but noticed Cassandra's angry face, who had caught up to the dwarf and was most likely standing behind him, and he tilted his head slightly, "...companion?" He said carefully and moved his hands against the counter. "What food you have for today is just fine, thanks." Varric coughed a little and nodded.

He moved to a free table assuming that the Seeker was following him close behind. As Varric sat down on the other side of the table he heard the Seeker's question and he raised his brown eyes at Cassandra, "It's an adventure!" Varric grinned and spread out his arms in exaggeration. "And maybe I'll find a new story for my books." He shrugged and chuckled lightly. He sighed then and scratched his neck, "Besides, I'm sure you are super fun to travel with." He smiled with a hint of sarcasm.

It was not long after that when Norah, who was the waitress, brought the two plates with some sausages and mashed potatoes. Norah put the plates down on to the table and Varric handed him some coins for her from his purse, "Keep the change, dear." He winked his eye and showed a charming grin, and then started to wolf down the food in front of him.

Practically it would be wise to eat before a long venture. A short trip unfortunately would end up being very, very long. This meal would be one to savor in the future all things considered! Cassandra had indeed been behind Varric as he spoke to the man, her face twisted and snarled into a face of displeasure. Displeasure with a hint of anger! Her eyes of green shimmered with that anger, her nostrils flared just once at the man in front of Varric. This, of course, would be a regrettable choice. However she did follow Varric to the table.

Settling across from the dwarf, Cassandra slouched a bit into the chair. Her eyes narrowed into slits at his sarcastic comment. “I am a delight to travel with, thank you, dwarf.” She defended though that really did depend on the person. The Divine and other Seekers had found her to be a fun companion for long trips. Just because Varric didn’t like her didn’t mean his rude comment was deserved! “You travelled with supposedly the biggest arse in Thedas and I’m not fun? Do you enjoy murder then, Varric? Should we make a stop in a village to slaughter innocents? Would that make this adventure ‘fun’ for you?” She snapped back at him.

Was she always like this? Partially, yes Varric did not help improve her mood by any means. Especially considering they were stuck together for at least a month, perhaps more depending on weather and the like! The food arrived and instantly the dwarf began to quite literally shovel the newly delivered meal into his mouth. Her felt her nose scrunch up and her lip curl. Did he need to eat like some sort of wild untamed animal?! “Maker, Varric, breathe.” She groaned at him as she took her first bite of the meal, delivered by a woman who receive a very lovely tip. The meal itself wasn’t horrific nor was it the best either. It’d do.
