One could imagine the pure rage Cassandra Pentaghast had just a day prior. The Champion of Kirkwall had shown up at the summons of Varric. For months the Seeker of Truth scoured Thedas, followed endless and even moronic leads in hope of finding a leader, someone to dissipate the conflict that had been brewing at the time. Yet the dwarf knew where he was the entire time! No, Asmodeus Hawke would not make a fine leader or a peacemaker. He was a warmongering fool, taking peace and ruining it. Fanning small sparks until they were roaring flames of a rebellion or things that would grant him a chance to murder or slaughter, a chance to be himself. That did not make Cassandra any less angry about things.

People lied; people fibbed and stretched the truth. Perhaps Cassandra was more irate that she had spent so long searching for hope when Varric had the hope all along. They’d lost Haven and found Skyhold just over a week ago. It all seemed to pile up quickly. She may not be an adviser like Leliana or Josephine but she founded the Inquisition, she brought it back to life. Its fate mattered to her as it hopefully mattered to others. The anger festered like an infected wound. The hurt and betrayal of Varric, the fact that the Champion was every bit a cock as they’d said... Adding their recent losses and Cassandra was slipping downwards. She needed to do something lest she run to Varric and toss him over the mountain side.

She needed someone to talk to, someone who understood. Potentially even someone to toss around in the sparring ring. One named popped into her mind. A trusted confidant and someone she felt she could trust. Commander Cullen Rutherford, a former Knight Captain and a capable warrior. Her direction shifted from the way to Skyhold’s small Chantry to the Commander’s location. He’d be easy to spot. For some reason the man always wore some sort of mantle with feathers or fur. She didn’t understand it but she rather liked the item. It was dignified and looked decent enough on the man!

Judging by the way people parted for her, Cassandra imagined she looked every bit as angry as she felt. She did not stop to apologize or explain. She had her target and she moved with determination. The only thing that would likely stop her would be Corypheus, his Archdemon, or her accidentally pushing someone off the walkway. None of those three would happen—thank the Maker!—so she would arrive quickly and with ease. The sounds of her steps were not at all quiet or tactful, they were loud and essentially just stomps of her feet.

Maker, things were hectic here. She noticed the way rubble and rock were still freely placed, not yet moved or reused in the rebuilding of fallen walls and fortifications. Something Cullen was no doubt taking part in! “Commander Cullen,” She called out upon her approach. “May I have a word with you?” He could refuse her request, of course, but Cassandra was a persistent sort. Perhaps Iron Bull might agree but… She wasn’t sure she wanted that.

Any fortress, any building, had its fair share of rumors and mysteries! Rarely did any of them interest Cassandra. They usually held some sort of truth but for the most part she found them to be of little use to her. No doubt rumors kept Leliana in business, at least somebody benefited from such ridiculous things. Though she no longer wished to dine on specific tables if a few of the rumors were true… People were rather disgusting, weren’t they? While she hardly counted as an advisor to Vela Lavellan, she often stood in the War Room and its map of Thedas. Today was one of those days. The Seekers were… Well, they were a mess.

For all Cassandra knew, she was the last Seeker in Thedas to not be destroyed by the whims of a man who never did deserve the title Lord Seeker. She’d lost the man she’d once mentored to it; she drove her sword through him to end the suffering the Red Lyrium caused. That Varric Tethras aided in bringing into Thedas! One rumor had reached her ears in the last few days. A woman of white features had supposedly known a Seeker. She didn’t like rumors or believing anything that held the word ‘Seeker’ in it any longer. The Order was seemingly destroyed by Lord Seeker Lucius! However she could not deny the bubbles of curiosity that existed. She could ignore the rumors or the curiosity for a time.

In the quietness she could not ignore the desire to follow the rumor to its origin. She recalled a name that had followed the rumors, Somniari. Or had she gotten it wrong? She couldn’t be sure as of yet. Leaning on the War Table, she gave a groan as she caved into her own wants. She needed to find this woman. And if the rumors were wrong, Somniari would have a proper introduction to one of the inner circle of the Inquisitor, a proper welcome!

She pushed herself from the edge of the table and headed out of the room. Maker, how would she even know where to look? The Herald’s Rest might be a decent place to start, she figured. And so that’s where Seeker Pentaghast headed.

The time had come. After interrogating one Varric Tethras for an unspecified amount of time, Cassandra and Leliana turned their attention to finding someone to help. The Mage-Templar war truly began in Kirkwall with Knight Commander Meredith being a very large driving force in the war that could absolutely destroy Thedas. Yet this Asmodeus Hawke could not solely be claimed a hero given the rumors or tales in the City of Chains and words from the dwarf’s mouth too. It seemed Hawke, the Champion of Kirkwall, would be no help to the cause of peace. Not after everything she’d learned… It would take a great many months from the first interrogation session with Lord Tethras to this every moment.

She’d spoken to Leliana through ravens. The Divine should hear this story, perhaps the entire Conclave should too. Divine Justinia called the meeting in Haven in an effort to bring peace to Thedas once again. The Age of the Dragons seemed curse for war and blood. Cassandra marched towards where Varric would be. They were going to take a trip. Should the dwarf refuse? Well, Cassandra was not known for her gentle ways or persuasive words.

Divine Justinia would be in Haven. She called all the fighting forces there, the higher ranked and influential members of each side. Cassandra needed to get Varric there and quickly! She could do it if Varric did not fight her demand, making this adventure much harder than needed. Surely he’d want to explain everything he’d told her. She could simply clasp him in chains if he put up a fight. The idea sounded quite divine and she mulled over it as she walked upstairs.

The door would open, potentially leading into the man’s study or even his bedroom for all that she knew, and in would step Cassandra Pentaghast dressed in the familiar armor of the Seekers of Truth. “Varric,” The Nevarran native spoke and did her best to hide her distain, very much failing. “We are going to see the Divine. Immediately. Gather what you may need for travel quickly.” The words sounded like an order because they were just that.

Could someone deny a meeting with the Divine of the Andrastian Chantry? Cassandra imagined so though she hardly imagined they’d live long for such a refusal. Regardless, she knew he’d not toss it aside. Likely he’d say that all of this would make a great book or an addition to a story. Maker, she just wanted to get this over with. Cross the sea, trek across Ferelden and simply be done with him and this blighted war.

@Varric Tethras Please let me know if you need any changes! I gave a generic sort of entrance. <3

History:

Halfway on a journey to Val Chevin from Cumberland, Tigana Pentaghast gave birth to the 75th heir to the Nevarran throne. Cassandra Allegra Portia Calogera Filomena Pentaghast was the second born child but their first and subsequent only daughter, their first child was a boy named Anthony. There could be no happy childhood for Cassandra and Anthony. Why? In 9:10 their parents were involved in the second attempt to displace and overthrow King Marcus Pentaghast. This attempt very much failed as the first had thus resulting in the execution of those who were against him. Mercy was shown to six year old Cassandra and her sibling; they were spared from the executioner’s axe. Spared for only two reasons, they were but small children and they were family. Perhaps the most important thing that kept them alive was their Uncle Vestalus. He was their voucher, claiming they would be no problem to the throne again and took the duo as his wards.

Any sort of bonding or familial love seemed to vanish just two years after Vestalus took in the siblings. In 9:12 he took a higher position in the Mortalitasi which meant less time could be spent with Anthony Cassandra. The siblings turned to each other, they were their best friends, their sole companions, and she had never been more grateful for him then in those years of solitude. As Anthony developed a love for swordplay and a dream to be a dragon hunter like the Pentaghasts of old, so did his sister. They’d be seen sparring and practicing by servants and the few people that really even took notice of the siblings. Eventually Cassandra would grow to resent the Pentaghast clan due to being kept in a gilded cage and eventually became estranged to Nevarra entirely.

Once again death would take another beloved person from Cassandra’s life. In 9:16 Anthony had become reputable enough as a dragon hunter to have a group of blood mages target him who needed blood of a dragon for a ritual. Upon refusal, they beheaded Anthony in front of the twelve year old Cassandra. There was no justice for her big brother. She begged and pleaded her Uncle for revenge, to send her to the Templars so she could at some point avenge Anthony when the mages could not be tracked down. Instead Vestalus had her sent to the Seekers of Truth.

The beginning of her training started at the fortress of Montsimmard, her mentor was a senior member named Seeker Byron, where focused was given to her religious education rather than her martial education. Naturally frustrated by the tasks and religiousness, that eventually faded. She’d become excited in her studies rather than dread it. When Cassandra accepted her studies, she excelled. Like every Seeker before and after her, she underwent her vigil. However she underwent hers at the age of fifteen. This took place in a remote castle in the Blasted Hills of Orlais which made her the youngest Seeker to do since the Storm Age. Cassandra turned her back on her status as nobility and the wealth to be a Seeker.

Everything from there on is commonly known of Cassandra, at least of her deeds. Supposedly saving the Divine single-handedly from a dragon has given her the title Hero of Orlais though she avidly protests that she did not do it alone, the mages were a great help to her defeating the dragons and blood mages. One unknown fact of that battle was that she met Regalyan there, the only man that Cassandra has ever loved or been intimate with by any means. This is the battle where Cassandra Pentaghast also became the Right Hand to Divine Beatrice III.

After the events of Kirkwall—a Warden mage named Anders had blown up the Chantry and subsequently brought on the Mage-Templar war—Cassandra was sent to interrogate anybody who had anything to with Hawke or the mage Anders. That person happened to be Varric Tethras who weaved a rather extravagant story that Cassandra reluctantly accepted as the facts known to both herself and Leliana confirmed it. Hawke could not be found, there could be nobody to stop the Mage-Templar war. After interrogating Varric, Cassandra departs the Amell estate to report back to Divine Justinia V, the woman who replaced Divine Beatrix III.

The Breach took away not only Divine Justinia—a woman that Cassandra adored and loved—but it also took away her lover, Regalyan. The explosion killed many yet left one alive. The woman who would come to be both the Herald of Andraste and the Inquisitor of the Inquisition, the Inquisition that Leliana and Cassandra brought back to solve the biggest problem Thedas had likely faced since the First Blight.

Personality:

Cassandra believes in order which she strives to achieve regularly. Not just order but Cassandra strives for justice and peace. She’s a big believer in the Chantry. This does not make her a fanatic. She may be deeply pious but she is not ignorant to the flaws of the Chantry by any means. She knows the Chantry begins people together, gives them a common factor. The Chantry needs a bit of reform, needs to return to helping Thedas. She’s not entirely built on humor; she’s not very funny and is often considered quite stoic or a bit too serious. Sarcasm and disgusted noises are two things that regularly can be heard coming from her mouth.

As much as she dislikes or even hates Varric, she adores his books! She loves his novels specifically Swords and Shields, the romance novel. Despite her rough and edgy exterior, Cassandra loves romance and all things quite sappy. She’s been described as impulsive and someone who has anger management problems, that assessment is quite true. She is loyal to the Inquisition, to the Seekers, and to Thedas. To those she befriends and loves, she would do anything to protect them.

Standing at 5’10, Cassandra is slightly above average in height. She is muscular and avidly maintains this through sparring and general workouts. She has black hair that can be a range of short to long, depending on whatever she damn well feels like. Cassandra is confident in herself, in her body, and in her abilities. However she does not regularly wear dresses like some women of noble birth. She prefers trousers or what might be the comfiest or most practical.
