The discovering of the oculara had provided a fair amount of material for research, particularly in regards to the shards that they uncovered. Unfortunately, the Inquisition had little to go off of. Solas himself did not recognize the magic at all, giving him a good idea that creation of the oculara had possibly come within more recent years- or, at least recent by his own standards. What had been able to be discovered was their use, as Enchanter Renaud had found a scroll that had mentioned them and research had given the theory that they might be able to unlock an eleven temple in the Forbidden Oasis.
<p>
From there, their existence had fallen into the hands of Solas and the small group of agents he worked with. Unlike the other advisors, Sister Leliana had appeared to be quite interested in gathering as much information as possible on them. The fact that he was of a similar mind helped things progress easily.
Where to start was difficult to say. While the shards pointed to an elven temple, the oculara gave him a suspicion that they worked as a fair amount of Tevinter magic did- merely another remnant among many that had taken to taking elven magic and calling it their own. After all, the name itself sounded far more Tevene than Elvish.
<p>
Still, he would prefer not to jump to such a conclusion so quickly. For the moment, he would need to actually inspect the shards and come to know what it was. A second opinion could be gathered later. Carefully, he began setting things up.

Word of Hawke's arrival had quickly spread across Skyhold despite the attempt of secrecy with the entire matter. Overall, it was not too difficult to understand why. From Solas had come to understand, the mage was more a friend towards Templars, and perhaps not in the best of ways. Considering that the Inquisitor was quite the opposite in demeanor, having given her allegiance towards the mages- yet always, for reasons that were often beyond his understanding, trying to help anyone- it was natural that word would spread, either because one person who should not have had heard or because Ser Hawke had chosen to make himself known.
<br><br>
It was of little interest to the apostate, at least for the moment. It was only natural that things would grow worse from here. Everybody knew that Varric had claimed to not know the location of the Champion and yet here he was, having arrived supposedly due to the dwarf himself. He had little doubt that the Seeker would not be pleased. As much as he respected her, there was no denying that her temper was short, particularly when she was being lied to.
<br><br>
The rotunda proved to be the best place to keep from the chaos. It was a relatively quiet place outside of the murmurs of those within the library above and the cawing of birds. Settling himself in his chair, he turned his attention to one of the few books he held in his possession, eyes drifting over what should have been fiction instead of the normal magical tome he entertained.

<p>The world was <I>wrong.</I> It had fallen into decay since the Herald had died at Redcliffe. It was difficult to know exactly what had happened as those who had been present had been captured and the Inquisition had been unable to save them. With her death, they found themselves in a state of trouble. Vela has been the only individual capable of sealing rifts. Any attempt to find another solution had naturally failed- <i style=color:#698492>it was only natural considering how she had likely gotten the mark; he knew well it would likely never be replicated</i>- and the world found itself in a similar state of mild cause as it had been in before.

<p>It did not last long.

<p>The world quickly collapsed. It started first in Orlais. The Empress was assignated and with her death came both chaos and an opportunity. With no stable leader, it was naturally seized by their enemy. The greatest power in Thedas was currently in the hands of a madman. It continued. No one quite knew how, but the ancient Magister soon had his hands on a demon army. With the Inquisition unstable and Coryoheus lacking a proper enemy his takeover was easy. As was common, many banded to his will. After all, it did not matter whether he was actually was a god or not. He seemed to possess the power of one and that was enough.

<p>It only grew worse as the Inquisition attempted to make a stand. Futilely, they attempted to fight back several times, only to grow smaller and smaller each time. Many of their men had been captured, Leliana being among those who was well remembered. Solas was one of the few from the beginning who still stood and had managed to either not die or get captured.

<p>He did have to wonder if it mattered at all though. The world was wrong, unfixable as it was. The Inquisition was little more than the size of a group of bandits and had no proper leader. Moreover, Corypheus was unchallenged. He might not be a god, but he certainly held the power of one. He knew well enough that if the Magister did not kill them the world around them would. The Veil was gone, but it had not been constructed as Solas had wished. There was only chaos and red lyrium was easy to find. If one was not infected with it then it could easily sing to them.

<p>It certainly sang to him, intermixing with his guilt. Yet, he had not run, not yet. After all, what use was it? The world he wished was impossible to gain. Now...now there was only death.

<p>He blinked owlishly, a deep grimace crossing his face. The sound of footsteps interrupted his muddled thoughts. <strong style=color:#698492>"We need to move,"</strong> he said crisply.

<br />

<p>A great deal had happened in the short amount of time since the Inquisition had been born anew at Skyhold. While vigil had been held and people had mourned, there had been little time to properly grieve. As a result, the Inquisition found itself moving as quickly as possible, a fire having been born in the hearts of those who had joined under its banner. More importantly, as the Inquisition strove to accomplish its goal the number of people who wished to join increased, and increase it did.

<p>It was with a sense of satisfaction that Solas took in the actions of the Inquisition. While he held little doubt that Corephyeus would strike again- his pride would not allow inaction, after all- it was clear that the force he had joined would be able to stand on toe with him eventually, so long as they continued to grow at the rate that they did. Yet, worry did plague him. He cared less for the defeat of the ancient Magister and more for the orb. The actions that had led up to where they currently were were already wrong, a mistake in how things should have run. He could only hope that the achieved end was possible.

<p>Yet...that was not all that plagued his mind. Like the most horrid of diseases, he found his mind enraptured by thoughts of the Inquisitor. He found himself forever hesitating. Logic demanded that he do one thing- <i style=color:#698492>it could not be done, not with the path that he had set himself on</i>- but his heart rang louder, far more willing to trust than it ever had been. How wretched it was to be so doubtful about this if all things.

<p>He found it best to distract himself. Duty was the easiest of distractions, allowing such thoughts to mull about when he was alone. Thankfully, he had been called forth by Commander Cullen for, as could be predicted, magical advice. There appeared to be magic related trouble that was affecting a fairly small town within Ferelden. While it appeared to be nothing troublesome enough to call in several mages, they did wish to send him with the troops due to the fact that the magic appeared to be unrecognizable to anything seen thus far.

<p>Solas found himself to be a pleasant mixture of curious, excited, and apprehensive. Exploring magic to any degree, particularly magic that had become lost over the years, was always exciting, particularly since some of it was not always recognizable to him. However, he did find himself relatively apprehensive to work with any of those under Commander Cullen. While the Commander himself was a decent enough man- though, perhaps a bit too rash- his troops were something of an unknown and it was hardly beyond the mage's notice that not all of them were...happy to work with mages.

<p>He did hope that this did not go <I>terribly.</I>

<p>Readied and packed, the apostate arrived early to where they were supposed to leave, quietly waiting for the others.
